Solomon’s Psalms and Psalm 2 & 45, 102: Psalm 72, 127 and 2, 45

Have you ever worked hard at something to see no result, while other things you do turn out better than you hoped for?

Sometimes, but not always, it could be because we need to build the right house: the one God wants built.

In that respect, if the house turns out well, we can’t take the credit for it. It’s God who builds it; we’re just the tradies. Solomon knew this well.

Psalm 127

Unless the Lord builds the house,
those who build it labour in vain.
Unless the Lord guards the city,
the guard keeps watch in vain.
It is in vain that you rise up early
and go late to rest,
eating the bread of anxious toil;
for he gives sleep to his beloved.

³ Sons are indeed a heritage from the Lord,
the fruit of the womb a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior
are the sons of one’s youth.
Happy is the man who has
his quiver full of them.
He shall not be put to shame
when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.
