Esau’s descendents: Genesis 36 and parts of Chronicles

These lists of descendents seem to be an interruption to the main narrative.

Esau ultimately left Canaan completely and moved to Seir, home to the Horites. The Horites appear in the Bible without any indication of where they came from, but they intermarried with Esau and his descendents to eventually become Edom.

Amalek (father of the Amelakites and enemy of Israel) was the grandson of Esau through his son Eliphaz and Timna the Horite.
