Solomon’s proverbs: Proverbs 22:17−24:34
Solomon wrote 3000 proverbs and collected other wise sayings; some made it into the book of Proverbs. These chapters are from the collection of the words of the wise.
This is a collection of 30 sayings that were in use across the then-known world. Their purpose was:
22:17-21 Incline your ear and hear my words,
and apply your mind to my teaching;
for it will be pleasant if you keep them within you,
if all of them are ready on your lips.
So that your trust may be in the Lord,
I have made them known to you today—yes, to you.
Have I not written for you thirty sayings
of admonition and knowledge,
to show you what is right and true,
so that you may give a true answer to those who sent you?
As you would expect, there is a proverb about the value of wisdom:
24:3-7By wisdom a house is built,
and by understanding it is established;
by knowledge the rooms are filled
with all precious and pleasant riches.
Wise warriors are mightier than strong ones,
and those who have knowledge than those who have strength;
for by wise guidance you can wage your war,
and in abundance of counsellors there is victory.
Wisdom is too high for fools;
in the gate they do not open their mouths.
