Jesus explains that He is like bread but even better and many leave, then He explains why someone’s words matter more than washing hands: John 6:22–71; Mark 7:1–23; Matthew 15:1–20

Jesus had to explain that the miracles He did were not the reason He came. When the people He was speaking to wanted the same gift to do ‘God’s work’, Jesus said:

John 6:29 This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent.

Then, like the Pharisees, they asked for a miraculous sign first, referring to manna. Jesus explained that He was better than manna.

John 6:35 I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
