Jesus explains that being free is about more than being a Jew or not a slave, then insults the people who believe in Him; He later sends out 72 disciples to spread the good news, uses the parable of the good Samaritan to explain what a neighbour is, and visits Martha and Mary: John 8:21–59; Luke 10

The idea of an ageless Jesus is still hard to grasp for people who live in the here and now: how much harder would it have been for the Jews who saw Him in person?

John 8:57-59 The people said, ‘You aren’t even fifty years old. How can you say you have seen Abraham?’ Jesus answered, ‘I tell you the truth, before Abraham was even born, I am!’ At that point they picked up stones to throw at him. But Jesus was hidden from them and left the Temple.

Their desire to stone Jesus was a natural response to what they would have seen as a blasphemous claim made right in the Temple itself.
