James’ letter to Jewish believers everywhere (Part 1): James 1–3

This is a message that the western church isn’t too keen on:

James 1:2-4 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.

Jesus told the Disciples that they shouldn’t expect an easy life.

The early believers counted it as joy when they were persecuted for His name:

Acts 5:41The apostles left the high council rejoicing that God had counted them worthy to suffer disgrace for the name of Jesus.

And Peter made it clear:

1 Peter 4:16But it is no shame to suffer for being a Christian. Praise God for the privilege of being called by his name!
