The first of two letters from Peter to God’s chosen people in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia (in modern-day Turkey) (Part 2): 1 Peter 4–5

Despite the persecution suffered by the churches in Asia Minor, there was still a need for instruction on how to manage the gifts various believers had.

Importantly for this self-obsessed age, there is no hierarchy: speaking is seen on the same level as helping others. Both were for the glory of God, not the glory of self:

1 Peter 4:10-11 God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.
