The Lord’s challenge to Job: Job 38–41

Having listened to everything Job and his friends had said, God then asked Job a series of questions, starting with:

38:4 Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell me, if you know so much.

And the questions continued: dozens of them, some of them showing the detailed care God has for His creation, for example:

39:1 Do you know when the wild goats give birth? Have you watched as deer are born in the wild?

The questioning eventually led to His (God’s) own justice and how Job’s understanding of it:

40:8 Will you discredit my justice and condemn me just to prove you are right?
